I'm running photoshop 2018. I'm add text on a photo and no matter what style I use or size of font. The font stays very very small. Why is that. It was fine before.

Why have you not given meaningful information?
Please read this (in particular the section titled "Supply pertinent information for quicker answers"):
https://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-7044
What is the image’s resolution?
Could you please post a screenshot with the text selected and taken at View > 100% with the pertinent Panels (Layers, Character, Options Bar, …) visible?
Does the issue also apply when you create a new image with 300ppi and create new Type Layer?

With those dimensions you need to get the type size up to something like 1000pt to see the words clearly.
Go to Image > Image size, select Resample and change 6PPI to (say) 300PPI.

I can only go up to 72pt. I never had this problem before, very strange.

I assume this image is for printing, if so change the resolution to between 200 and 300PPI
(Ensure Resample is selected)

You won't need to select such a large size font if you change the resolution. By the way, you can easily change the size to over 72pt by typing in the size you want (there are other methods as well).

Sorry – I should have said Resample: unticked as the screen shot below!

I had hoped that my asking about the image’s resolution and about how the issue plays out in an image with 300ppi would serve as a hint …
