Question

Foreground and background colors are reversed

Hello community.

When I select the foreground color the bckground color is what the brush paints with and vice versa.  I swap foreground with background and the new background color is active.  As the screenshot shows white is foreground but black is active.  If I do a fill and select foreground it is correctly white.

Hi!

You might also want to try resetting your tools. Here is a help doc on resetting your tools that might help.

https://helpx.adobe.com/search-results.html?q=resetting%20tools%20in%20photoshop&facets_fields=%5B%22applicable_products%22%5D&post_facet_filters=%7B%22applicable_products%22%3A%5B%22Adobe%20Photoshop%22%5D%7D

Let us know if that works,

Michelle

Have you tried resetting the Photoshop Preferences? They can be found in the Photoshop menu on a Mac and the Edit menu on Windows. Within the General tab is the button Reset Preferences On Quit.

Could you please post a screen shot that shows the entire interface so we can review things like...

  • Brush blending mode within the Options bar
  • Layer blending mode within the Layers panel
  • Do you have a mask active within the Layers panel
  • etc...
