Freezing during saving // file corrupted

Ok so it's getting old! The saving is freezing but photoshop keep working, I'm able to keep doing actions.

My current file is stuck at 29%, can't stop the saving, can't save an other file because the first file in the queue is stuck and won't allow the other files to save, happened about 15 times over the last week and if I force quit, then the file get corrupted so lost completely my files.

The problem occurs on Mac OS Catalina version 10.15.1 (laptop) and Photoshop 2020 version 21.0.1. That problem doesn't happen on my Windows work station at my office with the same version of Photoshop and it never happened with Photoshop 2019 with Catalina installed.

I spent 2 hours on the phone with an Adobe technician last week, final conclusion was that my external hard drive (HDD) that I'm working on could be the problem, so I got a brand new WD 1TB SSD, worked on it with my Windows work station without any problems for a week, now got back on my Mac with that new SSD hard drive and the saving froze!

Here is the list of all the things I went through with the technician :

. Reinstalled photoshop

. reset the preference

. try to recreate the problem and of course the files were saving fine (but also very simple files, could not re use my file because the file was corrupted)

. Make sure that the permission are correct (read and write) for photoshop and the hard drive

. An alternative solution for him was to copy that file on my computer hard drive and work from there and transfert that file again to my hard drive, but that workflow is really bad when I have to be able to work between 2 computers and that way worked before perfectly.

So let me know if anyone went through the same problem and how to fix it, because I'm getting really frustrated and upset, I lost hours of work over the last 2 weeks!!!

Try to give as much of details but let me know if you need more.

+1 on this. I regularly work 3-5h on a single file and it keeps on corrupting the file. I have been in contact with Adobe multiple times about this and their support is... garbage. They have already added 3 months for free to my plan which does not solve the problem, unfortunately.

They even admitted that the behaviour of the software is illogical. WHY ON EARTH would you overwrite an active file on save/ autosave. You should create a copy in the background, and if and ONLY IF the save is successful, delete the previous version of the file.

Hi,

Yes Zero effort from Adobe. They come up with "bandage solutions" that don't even work. Even if you tell them that the software never used to do that before.
So far I downgraded Photoshop to the 2019 version.
This is unacceptable and unprofessional coming from Adobe.
By the way I got zero message from them even there is a bunch of people with this problem, but I know if the problem doesn't touch more a certain percentage of people then they would not dedicate anybody to this problem!

I also have this problem with a macbook pro 16'', Catalina and Photoshop 2020. It seems to happen only when working on external ssd drive. Very annoying as I sometimes forget to copy the file on my computer and start working on the file. Hours of work lost and corrupt files...

Exact same issue here.

Within the last week, I upgraded to a new 2020 macbook pro 16" and got a sandisk SSD external drive that I save my work to. Within this last week, my PSD files have stalled out saving at 0%, 29%, various percentages, and corrupted themselves and have forced me to restart my entire system every time. This never happened once before with my 2017 edition macbook and external HDD.

I thought maybe it was indexing the SSD weirdly if it had previously been ejected but now multiple times it has still stalled proving this is not the case. The issue has cost me quite a few hours of work and is becoming increasingly frustrating.

Assuming it's some complicated program issue with no solution at this point. (Somewhere between apple and adobe perhaps.)

Would love to see Adobe support address the issue.

Yes.. After updating to Catalina my photos are freezing as well, while saving.. Not cool after spending time working on picture and have to start over. Especially when this is a business of mine and can't work effectively.

ADOBE please do something ASAP

I just updated to Cartalina as well and now I can't save any of my work and I have deadlines. I've done everything and now my photoshop isn't opening. I uninstalled, installed and even restarted my computer and having these issues.

You're not alone in this issue. I have just had 30 files corrupted after saving them. I also spent about 4 hours on an illustration for a recent project and it completely corrupted the file. I am livid. This was on PC aswell.

I have just uninstalled 2020 and reverted back to the 2019 edition. This is not acceptable for something we are paying a premium for.

yes very inacceptable. For me, my PC is fine, the problems occurs on Mac but I have multiples problems on different softwares since I update : Adobe bridge, After effect, Media encoder. I haven't use the other softwares of the suite enough since I updated for 2020 to see if they also have problems.

If other people with the same problems can replpy so Adobe can finally take the problem seriously.
