Generative Expand Greyed-Out

Question

Hello I have just had a new hard drive fitted in my computer and I've noticed that the generative expand tab is greyed out. Both in the contextual task bar and in the fill drop down box. Also I can no longer drag and drop images into Photoshop. Any ideas why? I'm using the latest version of PS and using Windows 10

solution: in crop, set "Preset" to "Full". this will enable Generative Expand.
the reason: some older camera's RAW file types are not 100% compatible, and need to be set to full before utalizing generative expand. For example: my Sony a7riii photos worked perfectly fine set to 4:3, Full, 16:9, etc. BUT my Sony a7iii would not allow generative expand until I set the preset to FULL.

Encountered the same issue after updating to Photoshop Beta 26.5. The Generative Expand option was greyed out. After chatting with an Adobe Agent, I was able to resolve the issue by changing the Bit/Channel from 32 to 8 or 16. Apparently, there are certain conditions for the generative features to work and a major condition is that the image should be an RGB and 8 bit image. To adjust this, go to Image, Mode, and select RGB Color and 8 or 16 Bit.

It seems my photo was set to 32 Bit or that Photoshop Beta is defaulted to 32 bit mode. It seems that to change the default to 16 or 8, you need to go to Settings, General, File Handling, File Compatibility and check on "Use Camera Raw to Convert Documents from 32 bit to 16/8 bit". Otherwise, keep it unchecked but remember to always change the Image Mode before expanding the frame.
