Question

Generative fill is leaving an outline of the selection

  • Good evening everyone. I've just started using generative fill in Photoshop for the first time today. All seemed to be going well to start with. I then uninstalled both Photoshop and the beta version I installed a few weeks ago because the beta version was my only option when moving a photo from lightroom to Photoshop. I then reinstalled Photoshop (but not beta). However since then, every selection I make for the generative fill tool is removing objects with no problem, but is leaving a feint outline of the selection I made. It's feint but clearly visible so is obviously a problem. I'm sure this is something really basic and I'm not very proficient with Photoshop. Any help in removing these selection outlines would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Have you found any fix for this? I found it very difficult to use Gen Fill on blue skyes for removing elements in the picture very frustrating. It always leaves de outline of the selecction behing, no matter how much feather I set it to.

You have to reselect the outline and tell Gen-A.i "Remove patch/smudge/dark mark" and it will remove it.

I'm also having this issue. It's a circle right in the middle of the attached image. Doesn't matter if I feather my selection, I still get this faint outline. I didn't have this issue before the latest release, either.

This is the exact same effect I'm experiencing, as well. It's becoming problematic when using these results for spot channel purposes as that makes the problem areas much more visible.

Same problem, in both lightroom and Photoshop and I cannot find a solution. It's so frustrating

Is a new layer being created?

Are you viewing at 100% (1:1 view)? If you zoom in/out does the edge appearance change?

Can you provide a screenshot at 100% view?

I can't speak for Yorkieand (original poster of the question) but the attached 4 pictures are an example of what happens to me. I numbered them in order of steps, if that makes sense.

A new layer is being created by Generative Fill automatically.
Pictures provided below are all at "fit to screen" except for the one zoomed in, which is at the requested 100% view.
The appearance of the outline doesnt change at any zoom %.

What are we looking at in your images?

Can you point out the halo and show before and after so we have an idea of what is changing?

I suspect we are going to need to see any selections used, if any, and possibly the layers panel.

Right now I have no idea what's going on.

Ive been experiencing the same thing since Generative Fill was part of full release version of photoshop.
Never had this issue in the Beta.

Same here. Crazy to say, but the Beta version was beilliant. As for this problem. Best solution is tto reselect the outline and tell Gen-A.i "Remove patch/smudge/dark mark" and it will remove it.

How loose are your selections relative to the object or space you are trying to fill?  If you make an exact selection of an object you can be left with a halo effect.  Best practise is to give Gen Fill ennough of the background to take into account when working things out.

Hi Trevor, I've tried all different sizes of selections but get the halo effect regardless. I presume I must have some setting wrong somewhere but as mentioned earlier I'm not particularly proficient in Photoshop. It's a big learning curve!

Hi!

Can you show us a screen shot of your image and workspace with all of the panels?

And what version of Photoshop are you using?

Thanks!

Hi Michelle, I'm using the latest version of Photoshop. I'll upload a screenshot later today as I've just got up and need to get ready for work. But I'll do that when I get home. Thanks again.
