Generative Fill with clear blue sky not giving good results

Hi,

I'm trying to use the generative fill on some images which have a clean, clear blue sky....but I can't seem to get it to give me a smooth clean sky...I can always see a vague outline of what I have removed?

In one, trying to add sky to a composite, in the other trying to remove a streetlight.
Any tips on how to get a better result?
I've tried making larger selections, more feathering or less feathering on the selection but nothing helps!

See screenshots from some images (these are from 16 bit psd files, ProPhoto color).

Thanks!

Hi!

Yes I can see the ghosting you are talking about. How larbe of a selection did you try? Also, have you tried using Content Aware Fill or the clone stamp to see if you get better results? I understand it is not the help with Generative Fill you are asking for, but I thought either one might be.a good way to get the job done.

Thanks, good suggestions, I have tried clone and content aware fill.

Clone is difficult as the gradation of color is so subtle that it can't adapt to the color changing (getting slightly darker to the edges). I tried content aware fill and it looks good but there is a slight band of lighter color (looks like lens flare!!) running at a 45 deg angle thru the area. I may try that again with the healing brush and see if I can smooth it out.

I'm just amazed because some things that are super complicated like brick pattern etc Generative Fill is able to fix or recreate...........and then every now and again something really simple it can't do!!

Alan.

I think we are getting spoilt for choice now, and it can be difficult deciding on the best tool for the job.  CAF is often a better fit than Gen Fill (as Michelle said) and it is usually faster plus it does not use your Generitive Credits.  In the case of the street light, I suspect that the Remove Tool would be the best tool.  You can select both the light and a minimal amount of the foilage, and it is usually clever enough to remove the problem and leave the foilage.

Yes, I just gave it a try and it worked a treat.  This was all in one go.

I have been super impressed with the new Remove Distractions (wires and people) option added to the Remove Tool.  It has worked way beond my expectations so far.

I agree, we are spoilt. Maybe my expectations are too high! I did achieve what I wanted with a combination of the (Beta) Remove Distractions and the remove tool on its own.

One thing that surprises me is that it seems that anytime you have a very smooth area of tone it's quite difficult for the remove tool or the Remove Distractions to get a clean smooth removal....

Appreciate your suggestions annyway,

Alan.
