I've gotten this prompt for things that might be considered NSFW or copyright problems. But yesterday I tried to insert satan into an image I was working on. I selected the area, typed in "Satan in the garden of Eden", and PS worked for about a minute and then did nothing. So I tried a number of other prompts - Satan, Lucifer, the devil etc. Nothing.

I thought maybe Generative fill was broken, so I tried "top hat", and after 15 seconds or so, I got a top hat.

Generative fill is a great idea, but honestly every single time I've tried it, it has been a huge disappointment at best. Mostly it wastes my time, so I've stopped using it.

The warning you got above is because you're asking PS to create an image it doesn't want to for whatever reason. Maybe it's NSWF, or maybe it's a copyright issue, but that's the issue.

"Satan in the garden of Eden" certainly doesn't sound NSFW or that it would be an issue. When I test on my end it works just fine. As does "Lucifer" and "the devil." If that is the full text of your prompt, I'm not sure why it wouldn't work on your end. If you have a longer prompt, I'd need to see the full text, so I can test on my end and see if there is something in it which is triggering the error. The system can be tweeked if there is something which is causing the error but shouldn't.

We don't worry about copyright infringement because our data set doesn't include copyrighted materials. It doesn't know who "Spider-man" is if you asked it to make "Spider-man in the garden of Eden." It would just make a generic man who is a spider (when I tested this prompt, I got some truely scary images back).

I just tried generating a image of satan it on a different computer and received the same message as OP posed above.  I was using the prompt "satan in garden" then I paired it down to "satan" and genertive fill still gave me an error msg. I was useing the lasso tool to select an irregular shaped area.

So I tried something different; "Big Foot" using the rectangular marquee tool and came back with the above mentioned error msg. Moving on, I decied to use something pretty generic and typed "frog" sure enough I got some images of frogs. However, upon trying satan again it gave me varous fabrics of satin, lol.

I than selected a different area using only the Rectangular Marquee tool and it finally gave me an image of satan. Hurray we got some where.

So, I tried again with satan and it started giving the error msg...yet again.

Repeating the test again selected a different area using only the rectangular marquee tool and it finally gave me an image of satan.

So, it seems that generative fill is pretty hit and miss and is highly dependant on the selection tool and area that you are useing. However, even that is pretty hit and miss; as some of the prompts that I gave it where not in irregular shaped selections and it gave me error msgs.

We are on  Adobe Photoshop Version: 26.1.0 20241113.r.121 158e617 x64

The error says the prompt is what is at issue, so the selection should not be involved. Just in case, I tested every one of the different selection tools and never encountered this error. I tried with "satan," "satan in garden," and "big foot" and never saw the error.

Are you outside the US? Are you using an enterprise account (do you have have your account through a corporation, school, or government agency)? If either of these are the case, there could be some additional restrictions that don't normally apply.

Thanks Brett. Not an enterprise account. We're a small fine art print shop / art scanning and reproduction studio in Seattle. At any given time we may have slightly different PS versions on the half dozen machines that have PS, so we're able to try on different computers running both Windoze and Mac.

Hope our testing and reports have been of some value to Adobe. None of this was really important workwise, but it's been interesting. The issue with these prompts seems to be random. Appreciate the support on the forums.

The version of Photoshop shouldn't matter since it is using a cloud service, all versions should be reaching out to the same server. But yes, keep submitting the reports ("Provide Feedback") so that it gets investigated by the team.
