Getting 100% CPU usage

I am having trouble with photoshop using 100% CPU when using Subject selection tool and it is really slowing my workflow down.

I am running Adobe Photoshop Version: 25.3.1.

I am running an i5 8th gen 2.8GHZ  6 Cores.

16GB Ram

256GB NVME

Gtx 960 2gb VGA

How is it possible to have a system installation (operating system with user account and applications) of only 62 GB? That shouldn't be possible. It will normally be around 100-120, and getting it below 80 is almost impossible even on a fresh system install. How much disk space does Windows Explorer report?

From the sound of your description, this sounds like you're running out of scratch disk space. A 240 GB system drive is normally way too small to run Photoshop efficiently. At the very least you should have another NVMe to put the scratch disk on.

Can you show a screenshot of Windows Explorer from "my computer" so we can see the disk(s)?

OK, that seems reasonable.

Here, Select Subject consistently uses one to three seconds. It is AI-based and will never be instant, if that's what you're expecting. So what do you mean by "slow"?

I don't know if Select Subject uses the GPU to any significant extent (I've been trying to look it up but can't find any info). If it does, that's likely the problem. The GTX 960 was released in 2015, so it's very old by now. You should start thinking about replacing it in any case. It's not up to Photoshop's current standards. The official Adobe policy has been to support GPUs up to around seven years old, and then they drop below the horizon.

Your Task Manager screenshot doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary. Short 100% transient bursts are perfectly normal and something you will see all the time everywhere. If it stays at 100% for, say, ten seconds to a minute or more, then the CPU is hard at work. Not so here.

I was use photoshop 2021 and i'm new to 2024. but 2021 subject selection tool and every other, worked very smoothly and never gone 100% cpu usage. I think this i5 8400 processor is not enough for 2024

The i5-8400 should be plenty capable to handle this. I don't think that's the problem.

It sounds more like a conflict of some sort. Or an outright bug.
