Getting a message when I try to edit a .PSD file

Hello

I have a friend that sent me a .PSD file that was created on a Mac and when I open it on a PC I get this message when I try to edit a text layer

"This smart object must be rasterized before proceeding. Edit contents will no longer be available. Rasterize smart object." I'm confused, I thought vector images were only rasterized.

None of the layers are editable.    Short of going out a buying a Mac(not going to happen :p)  is there any way to

  • Edit this file on PS 2022 on a PC?  - some option that I need to set?
  • Can the file be opened and saved in a differnt way on the Mac that would allow me to edit it

thanks for any tips suggestions or recomendations

Gary

Hi

If you double click on the Smart Object layer it should open the contents in a new window.

It's possible the smart object is linked to another document. A smart object can be just about anything including an image, a layer, another photoshop document, or a bunch of layers. Can you ask the person who gave you the file to expand the smart object to layers first? It could also have something linked to a creative cloud library which you don't have access to.
