Go to Layer Mask Shortcut

Engaged ,

When I use the command\ shortctut to go to a layer mask, I also get the visibility of the mask turned on.

It used to be that shortcut selected the mask, then using just the \ key would togggle on the visibility.

Why does the shortcut also now turn on the mask? For the life of me I can't find what I might have changed or whether the function has changed.

Do you see the shortcut in your Channels palette?

Note: I'm using the Legacy Channels Shortcut option in Keyboard Shortcuts.

I think all the shortcut keys in the channel palette is just like clicking on that channels eye visibility icon on that channel left end.  Which is is basically what the \ shortcut does for th elayer mask channel. So IMO \ and CMD+\ do the same thing. They toggle they toggle the current layer's  layer mask channel rube overlay.   If the current layer does not have a layer mask you not will see layer mask channel in the Channel Palette there will be no CMD+\ shortcut shown.  If the Current layer does not have a layer mask the shortcuts  \ and CMD+\ do nothing.  A layer with a layer mask mut be the current Photoshop target.

I understand all that. But for years I've been using the CMD + / shortcut to quickly go to a layer mask in an image. But the visibility was never on until I hit the \ key. Now it's on automatically when using the shortcut. What I'm trying to figure out is whether something changed with the program or some setting on my machine.

This is still incredibly frustrating. Every time I choose to go to a mask, the visibility is turned on. so every time I use the shortcut I have to do it twice: once to get the mask, once to turn it off. I'd love to know why in their infinite wisdom, Adobe changed the command/ shorcut on the palette to always initially show the mask.

If it isn't broken, fix it I guess. Sounds like Apple.
