Gray thumbnail and preview of .jpg in Bridge

After processing a photo in Camera Raw, opening in Photoshop and doing further processing in Photoshop, I save as a .jpg. When I look in Bridge, the thumbnail is gray, and the preview panel simply shows a Photoshop icon, without an image of the photo or any photo details. When I hit F5 to refresh, both the thumbnail and preview display correctly. I have tried various settings under Options for thumbnail and preview generation, and none of them seem to correct the issue. It's frustrating to need to hit F5 to see the thumbnail; this is something new from the first versions of Photoshop and Bridge that I've used. I have the most current versions of Photoshop, Bridge, and Camera Raw, so it is not an update issue. I have searched for answers to this but it looks like either I'm the only one with this problem or the only one asking!

If this is a persistent problem, I would try to delete the whole Bridge cache and let it rebuild (warning: it can take a lot of time before everything is complete again). Or you could try moving it to a different drive (in Preferences), or even check the option to "export cache to folders".

The Bridge cache is in your user account, located at C > Users > your name > Roaming > Adobe > Bridge > Cache. Or that's the default - you can put it wherever you want.

I have purged all local cache files numerous as well as selecting compact cache on exit, and neither one works for me. I am still having the same issue. I do have my Pictures file on my D drive rather than C drive because that drive has a much larger capacity, but the Adobe Photoshop software is on the C drive. Is this causing the problem? If so, should I move the Bridge cache to the D drive? Am I running any risks by deleting the Cache folder entirely on the C drive entirely, as has been suggested?

No need to move anything. It's very sensible to keep the image files on a separate, large capacity disk.

The Bridge cache can stay on your C drive unless you are running very low on disk space. It can be anywhere, really, but preferably on a fast drive. If you just cannot get it to behave properly, I'd delete it completely. It will start rebuilding as soon as you start Bridge up again.

I marked D_Fosse answer correct because it worked for me. I thought I did what is suggested in his answer but I was wrong. After purging all cache from Prefrences > Cache Menagement > Purge All Local Cache Files things start to work as expected.

Purging the cache should accomplish the same thing. Nuking the whole folder is just a tad more decisive 😉

I guess you have Bridge running in background and folder in which you are saving dislayed? You are not the only one.

I have both Bridge and my folder open while I'm working in Photoshop; it would be incredibly time consuming and just as frustrating to have to close and reopen Bridge and my folder for each photo one at a time, when the folder can have as many as 100 photos in it that I am going through. This is a new issue with the last two versions of Bridge and Photoshop; I never had this problem before. After reading your post, I did try opening a raw photo in Camera Raw from Bridge, closing Bridge, editing the photo in Photoshop, closing the photo, and then reopening Bridge, and the thumbnail and preview showed up just fine, but this is a horrible workaround. Is there any other way, other than doing what I've been doing and hitting F5 for every photo I've saved into Bridge from Photoshop?
