Hi. Is it possible to change the Passthrough to Normal as a default when creating a new group? Maybe I am biased, but I would expect "normal" to be my default.
Thank you

You could link a Script or Action (to change the Blend Mode) to the creation-event via Script Events Manager.
Or just use a keyboard shortcut for an Action that creates a Group with the desired Blend Mode.

Agreed 100%.
Creating an action is the easier method.
If you wish to Automate this via the Script Events Manager - there needs to be the following case sensitive descriptive label 4 character code, uppercase M, lowercase k, then two word spaces:
Editing the Script Events Manager.xml file, adding layer to the existing blank <valueClass></valueClass> entry (As "Mk " is used in different event commands, so context is required):
And of course you need an action or script with an entry to change the layer blend mode to Normal, which the Script Events Manager will automatically run whenever a new layer or group is added.

I am noticing this lately and I feel the same -it should default to normal.
It causes issues because hidden text layers that I need to save in my retouch files (in case i need to make edits later) become visible in the final file when it defaults to pass through mode.
At least give us an option to change the default here.
Please Adobe?

While I appreciate the response, uh, No! Adobe needs to make things work correctly. I've been using the creative suite and it's predecessors for over 30 years. These latest glitches are just ridiculous.
Why would it , by default, not be a normal (effing) layer?
I've only just noticed. It happening in recent files this past month.
I may do a uninstall and then cleaner tool and then a reinstall. I have been having lots of stupid problems like this in Photoshop. I tried resetting my preferences but it didn't work because my workspaces remained intact after the reinstall.
But really, it's just counterintuitive and makes me, the user - who is paying for these programs - do a workaround to compensate for a poorly designed function.
I don't have time for that.
I've just been pulling the contents of the groups back out as single layers - or not grouping them in the first place which sucks as I have too many unorganized layers that way.
It's a problem. I'd love to see Adobe address it and fix the issue.

I don't understand how you can call it a glitch when it has always worked this way and is by intentional design.

I do understand that you want it to work differently and that a simpler user configurable option than the Script Events Manager is desired.

Ok yes. That is what I want. A configurable option to set the default
mode.
I am doing very layer intensive retouch work and I have just noticed this
as an issue over the past few weeks.
I still think the fact that non-visible layers are showing in the final doc
feels like a glitch. Because I never noticed it to be an issue before. And
I have been working in a new role with extensive layers and grouped layers for a couple of years now. And it only happens on some documents and not others.
thanks for your input. Have a great night.

So maybe I just need to save the original text layer inside the group to avoid it showing through in the final document even though it's hidden? I'll try that and see if it works. You made me think about it and now that might be why most of the files don't have hidden text layers showing through, but others do. So thanks. I hope it's something just that simple.
Man, I guess I just never noticed it was auto set to pass through on a group. Interesting.
