Guides are hidden by default - why?

Maybe this is something that is new or I just think that it was different in earlier versions, but when opening a PSD that has guides, they're not shown by default so you may not know it has some. Sure, once you start adding a new one, they will come up.

However, I'm pretty sure this has been different back in, perhaps, CS6. Since there is no option in the prefs "Hide guides by default", why would Adobe now hide them by default?

@Doc Maik I just tested a PSD file and the guides are showing after opening with Photoshop version 25.0 on Windows 10, do you have these option enabled in the view menu

Sort of. The main problem is - and this is once more a thing that comes from Adobe's weird logic - that some settings are per image while most are not. You cannot recognize which setting is per image until you find out by trying. That's one part of the problem, but not the bug.

The bug lies in the way you hide/unhide the guides. If you do it this way, it won't work as expected.

a) Open a file or create a new one, add a guide by dragging from ruler. PS activates "Show guides". Hide the guides again. Save. Close.

b) Open the file again, the guides are hidden. Expected. Then add another one while guides are hidden, they will automatically unhide. Check the menu to have "Show guides" activated. Save. Close.

c) Open again, guides not shown.

I can replicate what you mentioned above, to be honest I'm not sure if this is always the way it was or not, I don't really use guides that often so never noticed the issue before
