Question

Healing Brush Tool sampling point not working

Hi, I'm  using the healing brush tool. I'd like to take a sample from a single point source and repair part of the image. Instead, the cross hair moves along with the brush sampling multiple points (aligned is unchecked). How do I get it to select from a single point.

Thanks,

Do you want to use pixels from certain spot only? If yes then just click once, otherwise while painting cross hair will follow your brush move. Difference between aligned and non aligned is that aligned will follow your brush and change sample starting location next time you start paint while not aligned will start again from the same point.

Checking non-aligned will not paint only and only sampled spot.

Aligned and non-aligned will act the same unless you release your mouse. Take the sample point, repair, release mouse, press mouse down and repair, and so forth.

When you click hold and stroke both cursors will move like your stroke like the clone stamp. When you release the click the source cursor will return to your sampled point. If you  do not want that.  I would suggest that you add an  empty layer to heal onto. Set sample Current and below,  Set a large Tip size.  Alt Click the  healing sample point  move cursor  to where you want to heal click and release move click and release use the healing brush as a dabber so the source point will not move. You can the trim  and blend in the healing layer.  Don't Stroke

Hi,

It's at work so I don't have access to it right now.  Why would the image matter? It's a 16 bit layered PSD file but the same problem happens with a small flattened jpg.  I've also created a jpg and filled it with different color squares. Same issue. The clone tool behaves the same way. It's as if aligned is checked.  Both my Mac and Photoshop are updated and I reset the preferences.  Thanks
