Healing tool on smart object

If I use the heal tool on a smart object layer and for some reason need to go back and adjust the smart object settings, the whole image shows where the healing tool was used. I use a layer over the smart object for the heal tool.

Its not RAW. The scan is saved as a TIFF. Why wouldn't Smart Objects be useful for my case? Thanks.

I expect you already knew this, but the Healing brush only works on raster layers, so won't work directly on a Smart Object layer.  However, if you check Sample All Layers and use the Healing Brush on a new layer, it will affect the SO, and do so non-destructively.  So a win win. 🙂    Sorry about the horrific image.

Are the Smart Objects placed RAW images or placed/converted plain pixel content?

I dont know what the difference is. I open the RAW TIFF scan on Lightroom as "Open as Smart Object" and then double click on the small icon bottom right of the Background layer.

There is no such thing as TIFF RAW. And you don't need to use Smart Objects for this.

    That seems as expected.

Why don’t you do the touchup in the Smart Object?

I've moved this from the Using the Community forum (which is the forum for issues using the forums) to the Photoshop forum so that proper help can be offered.

OK. Do I need to repost my question?
