Help! I can't open videos or insert them at all!

It looks like I can't do anything with videos in my Photoshop, I need help!

PS version is 26.2.0 and I run it on a Surface Pro 11 with Windows 11. (see system info attached).

The file used is an .MP4 / H.264 / 30 fps (see attached).

If I try to place embedded on a new file, it tells me 'Could not place because no parser or file format can open the file'.

If I just right-click on the video and open it with PS, the result is 'Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file'. I tried with several files, however, and the result is the same.

How's this possible? Thanks in advance for your help.

Can you run the video independently? With the Windows video player for example.
Does it play OK?

I am asking as, generally, problems with "no parsers" are because the file  hasn't got the right extention and while Photoshop recognises it, it cannot "read it"

My ususl approach is to try to have a look with Bridge and see if you can check how it looks with the previewer. That doesn't mean you will be able to open it with Photoshop, but it will tell you it recognises the content.

Usually one of the workaround is to open it with a software that can read it, and save it again, with standard settings

You can do that with Adobe Media Encoder, that I highly recommend when dealing with "exotic" video file formats (I am not a video techie myself, and it has saved me from a lot of headaches!)

Thanks! Nothing seems to be working. I installed a previous version of PS (25.0.0) and yes the videos are seeable with the media player.

I installed Media Encoder and passed through it, still the same message about the no parsers.

I am starting to think that it's a problem of compatibility with the GPU of this bloody Surface Pro 11. This machine has only problems (they changed the chip, no intel anymore). I hope I'm wrong as in this case I just have to change the pc... thanks again.

If you want to send me the video privately, I can see if it reads OK on my computer...

Just click on my profile picture and you should get an icon (enveloppe, top right) to send me a message.
If the video is too big for the system, you can include it ina wetransfer link or similar

* provided that it's safe for me to watch, not offensive... yadda yadda...

To add to what advice has been written by Imaginerie, i believe the issue is that Photoshop on Arm PC Processors does not support video operations as it seems to indicate in this Adobe KB:

I think that the point is this one. I tried with too many variations of file type, codec, and so on...

I don't understand this ARM shift for Surface, it just created a number of compatibility issues. Thanks
