Hello! I am just getting my feet with with graphic design. I currently am working on a projet in which I am trying to create a letter with a specific fill or image. I thought I would be able to add the letter above the layer of the desired fill and cut the shape of the letter onto the background or original layer to have a seperate perfectly cut letter. I hope this made sense haha! I was mistaken thinking I would jsut be able to pick this up easily as there are sooooo many tools. Everything I have found online is just using the quick select tool to cut one layer. but really my question is can I somehow select the shape of the letter and transfer that to my background to then cut it out.
I really hope this wasnt just a pile of words. I appreciate your time!

Hi DesignGranted,
A forum moderator moved your question from Get Started to Photoshop.
Do you know how to work with Layer Masks and the Type Mask Tools yet? See screenshot.
