Question

How can I create this font effect?

I'm trying to do some customized artwork for a re-theme of a pinball machine called The Getaway: High Speed II.  I'm wanting to approximate the type effect used for the original logo, but can't figure out a way to do it.

I have a font that is close enough, I can do the slant, gradient infill, light black stroke, and thick white stroke.  However, what I can't seem to figure out is how to do the outer bevel that makes the letters appear three dimensional.

Can someone please let me know if there is a way, and if so how to accomplish this in Photoshop?

Text layers converted to shape layers edit the shape layer path  changes shape layers fill to a gradient fill and stroke the path white and add a layer style to bevel emboss layer. Photoshop 3D feature can also extrude layers

I have done everything up to the bevel/emboss layer, but that is where I can't seem to figure out settings to get anywhere close to what the above looks like.  Also, I've used 3D extrusion before to add depth, but this is different (at least from my limited experience).

HI

This should be done in illustrator.

I have Illustrator, but don't know it nearly as well as PS.  Can you point me to a tutorial?  Messing around in PS, I've gotten something similar, but I cannot achieve the squareness of the bevel.
