Question

How can I set up an automatic naming system for my exports?

I often export many versions of the same file and I need a way to automatically name my exports. Is there any way I can add a timestamp to my png exports?

Open to other suggestions too!

Thank you

I'm exporting one at a time, rather than batch exporting, so I just want photoshop to add some kind of device so I can keep track of exports as I go along.

@Trevor.Dennis do you know if I can add date metadata in preferences? It looks like it's just copywrite info.

Thanks!

You would need a script that uses either save as or save for web, as export as and quick export are not scriptable. The timestamp would also need to be in a format that is not invalid for the host or recipient operating system.

Different regions have different formats, so what format are you looking for and what separators, spaces, hyphens, underscores etc?

DDMMYY or DDMMYYYY or YYYYYMMDD etc?

HHMMSS... DDMMYYYY-HHMMSS or DDMMYY_HHMMSS etc?

The only easy way I can think (not necessary exactly what you are looking for) of is using Image Processor Pro on open file. You can even add prefix and suffix as desired https://www.designeasy.co/2014/07/how-to-add-prefix-and-suffix-to-file.html

Your operating system will give the files a date and time last modified tag.

You can set Exports to save with metadata in Preferences.

You can batch rename with Bridge.

What information do you want included in the file names, and how will Photoshop know?
