How do I create a line using the pen tool?

It seems that the pen tool has changed significantly in this update. And I can't figure out how to draw a line with it anymore!

When I create a layer and use the pen tool it creates a fake path. One that shows in my path panels but not one that I'm able to convert into a line. Any idea?

Or after drawing your path right click and select Stroke Path:

Or, if you've drawn the line, click on the shape button to convert it to a shape layer.

But once it's a shape layer, how do I just make it into a path? I don't see fill/ outline options.

The fill and stroke options are in the path panel, not the path options. If you want to change a shape layer to just a path, go to the path panel to duplicate the path. That should just create a path and not a layer. Then you can delete the old shape layer.

Change PATH to SHAPE from the drop down box.

Give your Shape a Fill and Stroke value as required.
