How do I get PS 2020 to find patterns in a folder of my choosing?

I have a C drive that is small. I have all my programs installed on the D drive. I have 2 external hard drives for photos, data, things I am saving, etc. I want to add  certain .pat files to the presets /patterns folder in the PS 2020 program folder and have them show up in my patterns panel. It works for brushes, but not patterns? Then I tried to click on the side thing with 3 lines and chose "import patterns" It was looking in  "C:\Users\Vicki\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2020\Presets\Patterns". I am not storing these particular patterns there due to lack of HD space. How do I get PS to either automatically import my patterns in the preset folder within the photoshop 2020 actual folder, or at least know to look for them there each time? If it works for brushes, why not patterns? Also, is there a limit to how much I can store in those preset folders? I want to store items that I think I will use frequently. Thanks for the help.

When you get the Import Patterns dialog, you should be able to navigate to a folder of your choosing.
