How do I remove a colour after I fave filled it with the paint bucket tool?

I am doing a project for school and I need to render an image. I like to change my mind alot and what colours I am using, but once I place a colour in a specific area I cannot change it back to white without having to either restart or hit undo a bunch of times. I was wondering if there was a different way to remove colour or change it back to white after I have already filled it. I want to be able to swap between a multitude of colours to choose the perfect one.

Use color fill layers and masks - that way you can alter the colour in the layer by clicking on it and altering the colour. You can also alter where the colour affects the image by adjusting the mask.
