how do i set to load an image so it shows the boundaries

I have just reinstalled photoshop and the latest version doesnt bring in an image and automtically show the picture with its bondaries on the page, I use a white background to work on and usually it automtically  loads my product images (also on white background) so it shows a visual guide line around the picture to show me where the actual edges of the image is,  how do i set this up please?

Or if placing, perhaps uncheck Preferences > General > Skip Transform When Placing

I believe you want View>Show>Layer Edges

 

or

 

If your using the Move Tool check Show Transform Controls in the tool options
