How do I turn off slices?

I've re-set preferences in PS so now need to go through the myriad of settings to bring back into my preferred working situation... things I've forgotten how to do - quite a bit... for instance, the annoying alignment lines that pop up constantly while trying to work, I think they are markings for slices, I would like to turn off but forgot how and it's not a readily available command that I can find... Can you help with this?

TIA,

Ken

In keeping with Photoshop's many ways to do the same thing: Select the Slice Select tool , and click Show Auto Slices or Hide Auto Slices in the options bar.

Thanks for this, and also norman.sanders reply above... Why do I think this should be off by default... however, the way it is and we all need to know our way around in Photoshop so anything goes... Thanks Guys!!!  I checked... The slice tool is unwittingly hidden under the crop tool... and when selected I could not find Show Auto Slices... so that is why I need to go back to school... Using the Show Menu is easier... And now I see slices was already Show> Off so it must be Smart Guides that was making lightning strikes every time I moved the cursor on my work... Heavens... Resetting preferences is an exercise in re-learning Photoshop I will say... we should never get too comfortable with our set-up that we can't start over again.  Thanks Again...

It's an easy thing to miss Ken, but there's the Slice Tool and the Slice Select Tool also under the the Crop Tool unless it was removed.

The Slice Select Tool has the Show/Hide Auto Slices button
