Question

How do I use the Quick Selection Tool/Subtract from Selection?

I'm trying to make a mockup with the following image:

I'm trying to use the quick selection tool to create a smart object with the above image. I'm trying to select the outer edge of the business card but in doing so, it also selects the image on top of the business card.

So I'm having trouble de-selecting/substracting from my selection

Here is a video of what I'm doing. Sorry for the background noise in the audio. I hope you'll still hear what I'm trying to say

Can someone show me how to subtract from the selection properly?

If you don't want to select the logo, be sure the cursor never touches it. One fell swoop while "painting" around the logo produced this:

Of course, this isn't perfect and can be refined using the other selection tools and especially Select and Mask, which is on the Options bar at the top...but take it slow; there is a lot of power behind Select and Mask; it's not for the faint of heart. Give yourself time to learn it should you dive into it.

I tried to do this, but it kept on selecting the image inside of the blank, background business card.

I did watch the videos suggested by Sahil.Chawla , but I'm still having trouble with selecting just the edges of the card itself. The subtract selection option, doesn't work for me. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm sure when trying to add to or subtract from I'm doing something incorrectly

No, the 'quality markups' logo is not a separate layer

i downloaded this image from pexels.com

is there a way for photoshop to think that this logo is not there for me to make a better selection?

rawpixel has that same template at Adobe Stock, but it's in PSDT format (which is a fully editable version):

Business Card Mockup stock graphic design and motion graphic templates | Adobe Stock

The catch? You have to subscribe at $30/month for up to 3 assets/month. You can cancel anytime, though.

You could also try and clone out the logo using the Clone Stamp Tool (really quick but butchered example):

As you can tell, you can see the obvious pattern from the paper repeating but maybe a pass with the Patch Tool could help.

As you're trying to make a selection using the Quick Selection Tool but the selection includes the logo inside as well. Please check this video to know more about the tool and how it works: How to Use the Quick Selection Tool in Photoshop - YouTube
