I am trying to add multiple columns to a text box but cannot figure out how to on the up-to-date version of Photoshop.

You can't, but you can use multiple text boxes.  Photoshop does not do text flow between text boxes though.  You need InDesign, or MS Publisher to do that.

Just because no one has said it here yet, Adobe Illustrator also has text columns. Photoshop was never meant for text heavy documents.

wow the plugin is 19.99$ now. Maybe worth for someone who always needs to create columns in a single text layer.

Just had a thought that you might get some help using an Extension, and this looks interesting.  The best thing about it that it enables text flow between columns.  And it's free.
