New Here ,
Aug 09, 2022 Aug 09, 2022

I'm working on a book project. The printer sent me their preferred color profile to use. How do I install it/add it? Thanks.

I did figure out that's where the new profile is supposed to go. How do I get the new profile in there so I can select it? Thanks!

If it is there it should be available, you may have to restart Photoshop, though, I suppose.

I restarted Photoshop. It's not in the Color Settings. Still a file sitting on my desktop. There must be some way to add it to the list.

Which exact kind of file did you get? .icc, …?

What do you expect to be in Edit > Color Settings exactly?

Please post meaningful screenshots.

The printer emailed me:

To ensure the colors do not shift, please set your color profile to GRACoL2006_Coated1v2, which can be downloaded here: https://www.color.org/registry/GRACoL2006_Coated1v2.xalter.

I'm assuming it should be added to the list in the screen shot. I don't know how to make that happen.

Seems to list fine here.

What are you doing to select it exactly?

My list doesn't go that far down. Is it someplace other than under Color Settings?

Are you aware that the name of an icc-profile can be different in the Finder and as listed under Color Settings?

No. I'm not sure what that means. Thanks again.

Drag and drop the profile into /Library/ColorSync/Profiles - you will need your admin password. In Photoshop you can go to Edit - convert to profile and choose it. I just did all of these steps on my Mac for screenshots for you.

I can't select my "Convert to Profile." How do I do that? I did check and my Photoshop is all updated. I'm in Photoshop 2022.

You need to have your document open to convert it. You can't convert nothing.

If I opened a file, I can click on "Convert to Profile." But the profile I want isn't listed.

And I have 100+ files that need to be in that profile. If I got it, would I need to convert each one?

You can change your color settings - Go to Edit - color settings... Your profile will be listed under CMYK. You can also set up your color settings to sync across all of your apps by doing the same thing in Bridge. If you haven't been using this profile, you should choose to convert to working CMYK under Color Management Policies in the color settings box.

I don't know how to add the profile to the list. I've downloaded it. It's on my desktop.

Did you drag and drop it into the correct folder in your /Library? It won't work sitting on your desktop.

I'm in that Library. There are 70 folders. Which would be the one to drop the file into?

Inside of the Library folder you should see a folder called ColorSync, and a folder in there called Profiles, drop it into Profiles. You can see I have it in mine.

I did it. Then I clicked on a file and, low and behold, it's THERE! Jeez this was difficult but finally done.

Thanks everyone for hanging there with me!
