How to add color inside 3D text?

I'm trying to add color inside 3D text. The only way I know how is to add a new layer and manually add color using the paint brush, but this takes too much time!

Is there another simplier way of achieving this?

Something like this:

1. Use the Magic Wand Tool set to Contiguous and click on the White outside the letters and shift click inside the letter O.

2. Select>Inverse

3. Select>Modify>Contract set to 1 px

4. Add a Color Fill Layer (Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color)

5. Change the Layer Blend Mode of the Color Fill layer to Multiply.
