How to airbrush gradient effect photoshop

Help! Does anyone know how to make this airbrush/gradient effect in Photoshop? Can't figure it out myself.

I would recommend Groups with Layer Masks and Solid Color Layers and Smart Objects with Layer Masks.

Not that straight forward, you can not create gradient and done! You must work out final image using techniques suggested above by @c.pfaffenbichler

Filter > Blur Gallery > Field Blur may offer another option to apply varied blurring.
