Question

How to apply modify>expand to every magic wand selection?

I use modify> expand to make the marching ants of a magic wand selection be aligned right in the middle of the black outlines so that when I go to fill in a shape there is no unfilled white line between the fill color and the black outline. I do this by expanding the pixels of the selection by 1 or two pixels. The problem I have is that for some reason, when I'm working on one file, and I am repeatedly using the magic wand to select and fill, I have to expand the pixels every time I make a selection as opposed to the magic wand tool remembering my bodify>expand from my previous selection. (the magic wand use to save the pixel expansion that I set, but then out of the blue it stopped remembering) I seems like I messed up some setting somewhere but I have no idea how to fix this?

Maybe you mistook Anti-aliasing for expanding but the Magic Wand Tool has (so far at least) no automatic expansion feature.

It might be possible to use File > Scripts > Script Events Manager to link a Selection-expansion to using the Magic Wand Tool but ultimately that might cause unintended results when one uses the Magic Wand Tool repeatedly with the shift-key clicked to add to a Selection as the expansion would add up for the parts selected earlier.

Could you post an example?

Do you colorize on a separate Layer?

Hi!

Could you let us know what version of Photoshop you are using? If there was an option to automatically expand the Selection with the Magic Wand tool, it would be in the Options bar, when you have the tool selected. But, I am not finding anything.

One alternative you could do, is after you make your selection, run an action that opens the Select menu and chooses Expand. Here is a tutorial that will help you to create an action:

Let us know if you have any questions.
