Hi,
I am batch processing a very large number of sequential images. I will need to select and center on the subjet within the sequence and the subject sometimes shifts around the frame. I then want to crop left and right to the same size via canvas with the subject in the centre. I can automate selection of subject via object finder but then don't know how to re-centre/crop the frame on/to subject so that I can batch-save cropped sequence. Does anyone have any suggestions?

After selection (select subject or whatever), use Image > Crop. You can then you can use Image > Canvas Size to extend the canvas size larger for consistency.
Or just the use Canvas Size command without the crop command (either once from centre, or twice with different fixed left and right anchor points and values).

Thanks Stephen, the issue is that the size of the selected subject changes unfortunatly, depending on other stuff in shot, so when I use crop the file size is always slightly different which is not desirable. Other possibility is to paste into new document which would have a standard size but then I am not sure how to sequentially output from a new document on 400+ images?

Please post a couple of sample images.

I am now looking at using this script mentioned in this threat to save after pasting into new document... unless anyone else has a better idea?

Actually, I don't have enough experience with scripting and on closer inspection the scripts in my link don't seem to be exactly what I need. Can anyone point me to a basic sequential save as script from new document?

Again:
Please post a couple of sample images.
Both »as is« and the intended result.

Are you shooting these images without a tripod (or some other manner of fixating the camera relative to the subject)?
You didn’t seem to mention rotation in your original post at all.
What about that?

File > Automate > Crop and Straighten Photos seems to be able to handle the rotation fairly well, though.

I am not responsible for the image capture, just for fixing it. The rotation is not the problem, that's why I didn't mention it. Thanks for suggesting > Crop and Straighten, unfortunaetly it doesn't work for everything and the images end up at different sizes which is not what the client wants .. I guess some form of manual intervention is unavoidable unless you can think anything else.

Well, there is little point in badmouthing some third party but the image capture seems to lack basic forethought …
Using Image > Canvas Size to unify the image dimensions should be able to be recorded in an Action.
If that does not meet the point please explain what you mean.
