How do I change the default app for .psd and .jpg files back to the public Photoshop? I know how to assign this in the settings and have done it in settings several times. It still defaults to the beta when I double click to open a file. I do NOT want the beta version to be the default to open a document, and I do not want to have to open Photoshop first and then go file.open every single time I want to use it. If there is not answer for this, I will uninstall beta - as much fun as generative fill is, it is not that important to me to have it. I do have the newest versions of both installed.
Also, in Windows, is there any way to have both the public and beta versions open at the same time?
Thanks,
Marcy
The last installer activity will always take over file associations.
Normally you want to follow strict version order. The beta disrupts chronology a bit - they're both version 24.
You should probably be fine reinstalling the public version, and it should then take over file associations. When the time comes to uninstall, start with the one holding file associations, and then work backwards. Then reinstall whatever you want to keep.
Having a beta installed is always a bit risky, and the ri

I feel your pain also. The response by @D Fosse does work. I'm just going to be installing and uninstalling both of these apps for an hour just to get PS as the last installed.
So "for me", while in Bridge and for just opening PS (not beta) psd files I did go into preferences of Bridge and for Photoshop Documents I took the browse to file option, and drilled down directly to the actual PS.exe (not beta) (windows) and clicked save. And now a dbl click on a PS file in Bridge now opens PS (not beta).
This is not ideal because as I look there are MANY other associations that would open PS (beta).. but my concern is only for open PSDs in PS (not beta).

Go to any .psd document on your computer. I mean any Photoshop project that you are working on. Click mouse right botton and go to "Get Info". Go to "Open with" section and change the defult version as you wish. Also click "Change All" button to apply to all Ps project.

I know this is from a year ago but I had the same problem that files constantly opened in Beta. The next time I right-clicked on a tiff to look for the "normal" Photoshop to open the program, I decided to right-click on the Beta version in the list and uninstall it from there, which it did. I then closed everything down and restarted the computer. I then clicked on a tiff which would not open because it could not find the Beta version. I then looked for the "normal" Photoshop version to open the file and after choosing that version to open tiffs always, it is back to normal. Didn't loose any settings. Very simple. Just delete the Beta version and re-tick the normal version as default again after deleting the Beta version.

if you are Mac, right click the PSD file and click “Get Info”, then click “Open with” choose Photoshop not Photoshop Beta.
This work for me, so hope it can help other people.
