how to create Chrome effect in type text and images?

I am working on a project and need to create a chrome effect on wording and on some music notes and such.  How do you go about doing that in either PHoto shop or Illustrator?

You have posted this question in the non-technical forum Lounge.

What will your images be used for exactly -- print, web, video etc.? That will determine which software and  methods you should use.

They will be printed on Vinyl Banners and an Automotive Wrap.  Thank you so much Nancy.  New to using these software packages.

In Photoshop I typically use Gradients with Bevel & Emboss style effects.  See link below for details.
