How to create effective AI prompts: Photoshop Quick Tip 🔎
Tips for creating with Generative Expand and Fill
Learn how to write effective AI prompts to create extraordinary and relevant content. A prompt is a set of instructions given to an artificial intelligence (AI) to complete a task or produce an output. These prompts control the AI’s behavior and influence the quality and relevancy of its responses. Descriptive prompts allow you to create the images you envision. If you are not happy with the results, simply add descriptive words or rephrase the prompt to get closer to the look you desire.
Be specific and descriptive
The better you describe what you want to generate, the closer the results will be. Let your imagination run wild and see what you can come up with. Here are a few examples:
- Realistic picture of a woman with long flowing hair, and blue eyes in a purple dress
- A tropical island paradise, pristine turquoise waters, lush greenery, and vibrant exotic fruits, realistic
- Steampunk submarine underwater navigating past bioluminescent sea creatures
General Tips
- Leave out words like "generate" and "create"
- Use direct language with a subject, several descriptive adjectives, and keywords
- Avoid using instructions such as "add", "fill", "make", and "change"
- When there is something you don't want generated, try commands such as “remove,” “no,” or “without”
- Deleting unused variations helps keep your file size smaller
- To pin the task bar to a specific location, move it to a location, click on the three-dot menu, and choose "pin bar position"
Working with Generative Fill
- Limit selections to the area you want generated because everything in the selection is likely to change
- Include a small amount of the surrounding image to get a better blend between the generated image and the existing image
- Try making your selection in the shape that you want the item to fill
- To remove content, try generating without a prompt, the area will be filled based on the surroundings
- To change a background, select the subject, invert it, and describe what you want generated
- Try adding feathering or opacity to help generated content blend into your scene
Working with Generative Expand
- Generative Expand can expand your image to a specific size and fill the new area based on a prompt (You can leave the prompt blank to see what Photoshop comes up with)
- Try performing multiple actions simultaneously, such as cropping, expanding, and rotating
- Use aspect ratios to quickly define how you want to expand your image
- Generative Expand can be used to expand patterns
- Use the Straighten tool to level the horizon line, and then generate content in the empty space
If you don't get the results you want...
- Click generate again to get additional variations
- Try a different prompt or add more descriptive words
- Try making your selection in the shape of what you want to generate
- Rate or report your results to let us know where we can improve (in the more menu in the properties panel or contextual task bar)
