how to draw a line

yes as stupid it is i can't draw a line

i looked at a bunch of tutorial but when i pick the brush tool and i pick a color and i start to draw nothink happen

never saw a program that complicated just to draw a line

Is the Options bar for the Brush set to Mode: Normal and Opacity: 100%

If you need a straight line, click & drag with the Line Shape tool.  If you don't see it immediately, click on the triangle to open the Shape tools.

When you pick a color, confirm that you are picking a stroke color and not a fill color, as in Nancy's screenshots.
