I have just upgraded to full Photoshop 2024. I have used Elements for many years and often import a screendump by pressing Print Screen key and then File>New> and selecting image from Clipboard. This does not work in Photoshop 2024, but I need to do it often. How can I carry over this functionality to Full Photoshop?

What version of Windows are you using?
Photoshop doesn't have File>New>Image from Clipboard, so you use the method referred to by D Fosse below.
Another method is to instead press the Windows Log key + Print Screen, which auto saves the screenshot into your Pictures in a folder called Screenshots.
Then in Photoshop go to File>Open and navigate to your Pictures then Screenshots which you could put in Quick access.

Dear Jeff,
Thank you. I will try your method, but the ctrl+V method described by D.Fosse definitely solves my problem. Whenever I have used Adobe Photoshop Elements over the last few decades I have first pressed Print Screen, then File>New and been presented with a choice between a blank file or an image from the clipboard, as shown below: I have only just started to use the Full Photoshop, and was puzzled to find no such choice.

File > New > Clipboard just sets the dimensions for the new document.
Then press ctrl+V to paste the actual image you have in the clipboard.
If you do this often, make an action and assign an F-key. That's what I've done, and I've also included steps in the action to assign the monitor profile > convert to sRGB for accurate colors.

Thank you. Your ctrl + V solves my problem. I can now start to use the full Photoshop, but, being 78, I will try
to find a good written manual.

I have tried it and it is compatible with Windows 11 as well. Refer to @D Fosse answer for more details.

That is good to know.
