How to load a default image at startup in Photshop CC

Hi

I would really like Photoshop CC to automatically load a couple of reference images at startup as well as whichever image I wish to work on.

I edit photos using luminosity masks and having these references open and easily referred to would be incredibly useful.

Thanks

I don’t understand why you wish to use standard reference images for working with luminosity masks, as luminosity masks are unique to each image (an action would probably be better). That being said:

    1) Record an action that opens your reference images (I called the action set “Open Reference Images” and the action “Run!”, call yours what you like.

    2) File > Scripts > Scripts Events Manager, setup similar to below (select the event start application, then select your action and then press the add button):

    3) Quit and restart Photoshop

    4) Enjoy!

Thanks so much to both of you

As an explanation, the two images I want open are not actual photographs, one is a greyscale rectangle to help me gauge which tones would be selected when I combine luminosity masks.

The other is a table from Tony Kuiper showing what type of mask and what adjustment to use for a specific effect on brightness and contrast - e.g. raise brightness and decrease contrast in lights, or raise brightness and increase contrast in lights, etc.

Don't need them open, but they are useful to have open to easily refer to

I had the same thought.  But if you have the Recent Files workspace turned on for start up, and set to Thumbnails, there is a good chance those 'reference' images will be just a click away from opening.

Stephen's Action would do the trick, but another option would be to create shortcuts for the files in question, and use those to open Photoshop.  You could put that shortcut wherever works best for you, like the Windows Task Bar for instance.  Of course this would only work for one image, but you could combine both images as Smart Object layers in a single file.
