How to make abstract LUT working for CMYK or where?

Is there a way to convert a regular 3d LUT into abstract one acceptable in CMYK or something? Maybe in some 3d party soft?

Dumb way : )

Convert layers to smart object, convert document to RGB, create Lookup layer, convert layers to smart object, convert back to CMYK.

why a SO? Just convert a dupe to rgb, add the lut, then convert back to cmyk...

I guess the SO in SO set-up would maintain the ability to edit the original image without secondary files.
