Question

How to make photoshop actions record the color changes ?

Good afternoon,

If anyone could help me as I prepared all my files especially for this, it could be great.

I separated my RVB colours (I have three colours, product mode) into layers that have a name such as "colour blue" for a colour that is applied to a black drawn layer.

I want to record an action that changes the document to CMYK (easy) and each colour to its CMYK version.

Having all those Library popups when I don't need them, I thought it might finally be useful for once. Except that... the actions don't record when I apply the library colours to my colour layers.

If someone could help me processing my files (and understanding why is it that actions can't record such a simple thing), that would be a really great help for me.

Good evening,

Martin

Re. "understanding why is it that actions can't record such a simple thing"

My guesses are...

- some of these interactions may be happening in what are really small web browsers, so it's not really part of the PS core, but a tech they are using.

- the above and/or things cloud, I think, are much more prone to changes, less "set in stone." This could cause too much maintenance to keep things working. We have enough action bugs that never get fixed as is.

If it extracts from the Cloud a name reference and from there takes the HEX code... What could really be the difference from a misnamed layer?

Not sure what you mean. Maybe you mean the cause?

I probably have no idea here, but if it's meant to work and doesn't, that's a bug.

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, History, …) visible to illustrate the process?

Are you referring to Cloud Libraries? I am afraid those are indeed problematic in automation (Actions and Scripts).

Why do you want to use colors from the Library specifically in this process?

Because I carefully set up my tones in the library in order to optimize my inter-apps workflow.

Then you may have to transfer those Cloud swatches into »proper« Photoshop Swatches (as represented in the Swatches Panel) in order to utilize them in Actions.

And/or look for a Feature Request on the issue and if there should not be one yet you can add your vote to post one.

I mean, it's still possible to record CMYK values whilst writing an action. But that totally undermines the concept of carefully setting your library up.
