Apr 16, 2020 Apr 16, 2020

For my graphic desgin class we are making gifs, so I made my vector art on different layers in illustrator and saved as an .ai file. I went on photoshop and opened the file and it only has one layer. I tried saving as psd, jpeg, pdf, and eps. Nothing has worked. anyone know what to do?? thanks!

If you want to have layers then use Libraries panel to transfer them over to Photoshop. Otherwise you can try saving or exporting as PSD file which may work for you https://youtu.be/oqaSH8t2xRY

I guess technically one simply cannot open an ai-file in Photoshsop, one can only convert it.

But one can export as a psd from Illustrator – apparently you did but you did not reveal which settings you chose (Write Layers, Maximum Editability, …) and subsequently it’s impossible to tell if the result is unexpected or not.

Please post meaningful screenshots (including the Layers Panel) from both applications and the »Photoshop Export Options«-dialog.
