How to place linked photoshop file from cloud document?

I have some psdc files saved on CC as cloud documents and I want to be able to link them and place them in another psd file such that they can be dynamically updated across each other. I can't seem to be able to find a way to do so?

I know it is possible to download all of them and locally link them individually, but I don't want to do that since I work with them using both my computer and my iPad and it is infeasible to have to redownload the files every single time I make a change.

HI there!

This is an easy fix. If your files are already in the Creative Cloud, all you have to do is drag them out of the Library (Like in Photoshop for instance) and when you drag them out you will see handles to scale the image - this is indeed placing the image into your document, and it is also LINKED to the cloud. In fact you will even notice a cloud icon on the layer... so just like a smart object if you double-click it it will open in its own window and any changes made there will be updated in your document AND to the image inside the Creative Cloud Libraries!

You can see here I drew a black line across the image and it shows the updated image in the CC LIbrary too!

Thanks for the reply. This does help with my problem to some extent, but it is not exactly what I am looking for.

I was able to create a graphic out of the artboard in the photoshop cloud file and place it in another file. However, when I go to edit the content of the graphic, it seems that I am only able to work on the graphic version of the artboard as an .psd file, and when I go ahead to edit the .psdc cloud file, it doesn't automatically update the graphic in the library.

I am looking for a solution that works in a way similar to Premiere and After Effect dynamic links. So is there a way to make the graphic in the library automatically update with the .psdc artboard? I would like to be able to work on both the original .psdc file and the one with the imported stuff across devices. Thanks.

I just want to be able to link and place other cloud Photoshop files like what you can normally do with local files.

not sure I totally get what you are trying to do, but the key is to drag the artwork from the CC Library into other documents (which places it) and then if you update the CC LIbrary artwork or file,  it should update every file that is conected to that file - IF IT IS OPENED in Photoshop. Otherwise Linked files are not supported via the cloud.

You can also try using a smart object and dragging that into your other Photoshop files....  but I think all the files have to be open for it to update all. Or you can try a linked file, but it will have to be on your desktop.

I think the issue is that they want to use a workflow involving Photoshop Cloud Documents, not Creative Cloud Libraries. And because Adobe does not provide a way to connect those two cloud stores to each other, creating a CC Library item does not fit into the workflow.

It’s a continuing source of user confusion that Adobe offers Cloud Documents, Creative Cloud Libraries, and Creative Cloud Files as completely different cloud services that cannot be connected or linked to each other.

This might not be supported by Photoshop yet, or at least not the way you asked about (linked). When I try it, File > Place Embedded offers an “Open Cloud Documents” button that, if clicked, leads to the Place from Creative Cloud dialog box shown below. So you can do that, but of course, that’s just embedded. If you try File > Place Linked, the Place from Creative Cloud button is not there.

My guess is that maybe they have not gotten linked Creative Cloud documents working yet…in Photoshop. Because placing linked Photoshop Cloud Documents that update is currently working already in Adobe Illustrator.

(And yes, it is a challenge to keep straight the different kinds of Adobe cloud files. Cloud Documents, Creative Cloud Libraries, and Creative Cloud Files are all totally separate cloud stores that are not interconnected. It does not help that the dialog box above is labeled Place from Creative Cloud when it does not place Creative Cloud Files, only Cloud Documents.)

I think the best course of action besides waiting for an update might be to place the .psdc into a local .ai file then place it into my Photoshop file. This sounds like a very stupid band-aid solution but I'll try it when I get back home.
