Question

How to "erase" a Gradient Effect?

So I used a gradient on one layer, and I'd like to undo it.

It would be easiest just to "erase" it, because it created a shadow on the image. How do I get rid of it?

I've tried doing a reverse gradient, but I'm struggling with that.

Should I just try and find it in my history and delete it? I've moved the psd document to different computers, and the history always changes.

Would appreciate any advice, thanks.

Hi luckkyone,

If you just applied the gradient you can go to edit and undo that action. If you did more, you will have to try the other things suggested. Regards, JH

Use Ctrl+Z to undo.  If you closed the software, you're out of luck.  There is no undo.

If gradient was applied to an adjustment layer, you could remove that layer.  Otherwise, you'll have to start over.

I made the gradient a few days ago, and many times closed a reopened the document, so it's too far back to Ctrl-Z.

Also the gradient is on an image that is also heavily edited, so I can't just delete it like the person above you said, or I'd have to restart days of editing.

Is there any tool that I can use to lighten it or make it at least look a little brighter instead of the shadow?

Show us a screenshot of your workspace including the Layers panel.

You really need to learn how to work non-destructively so this never happens again.  Always make copies of layers (Ctrl+J) or use adjustment layers.

Delete that layer.
