How to reduce Jpg file from 52.1 MB to 35 MB without losing quality of image

I need to reduce a jpg file from 52.1 MB to 35 MB without losing quality. The file is 40" x 40" at 300 dpi. I'll be printing it close to that size. The printer won't accept anything larger than 35 MB in JPG format.

I'm assuming I need to make an adjustment when I'm in the SAVE AS funciton, to the "scale" or "quality" settings, before completeing the Export to JPG.

Can anyone with experience, share what they know for sure? Thanks!

You don't need 300 ppi at that print size. There's nothing magical about the 300 number, it's just a theoretical upper limit for book/magazine print to be viewed at less than arm's length. The bigger it is, the further back you'll stand, and the lower the ppi required. This will probably look splendid at 150 - 200 ppi.

40 inches at 300ppi is 12 000 pixels. The most expensive camera you can buy will only give you 8000 or so. That's enough for almost any thinkable purpose.

Ah yes, makes sense. Reduced the dpi to 200 and it brought the MBs down to 34.7. Perfect! Quality still looks great on my screen. Thank you!
