How to remove a background and leave the subject? (2nd attempt)

Hello all, new user here.
Please notice the enclosed images. I need to subject them to two processes, in order to prepare them for a before/after slider.
(1) Align them as precisely as possible. I already found out about setting the opacity level, scaling and shifting the image on top.
(2) For the second image I need to remove the background and replace it with transparency (*). I have seen several videos in YouTube showing how this is done. There seems to be several techniques and I figure that for the specific image attached perhaps there is an optimal approach?
TIA,
Travis Banger
(*) Since I require transparency, the image should be saved in the PNG format, correct?
Note: The images were removed since the moderator does not seem to approve of forensic cases?
The images are attached. Please do not click if you are sensitive to forensic/medical material.

Image #2.
This is one way to do it.
- Unlock background layer with a double-click.
- Use whichever selection tool you're most comfortable using. I used a Quick Selection Tool on the skull. The styloid process is a little tricky. Use add/subtract selection to get what you want. Or you can refine your selection in Quick Mask mode (Q) by painting with a brush or pencil.
- When you're happy with your selection, exit Quick Mask mode (Q).
- Go to Select menu > Inverse (Ctrl + Shift + i).
- Hit the backspace key to remove background.
