How to remove ground shadow from edges

Hi,
I render a lot of products without background but with floor shadows, but they are all cut off at the ends.
I would like to find a standardised workflow that allows me to make the shadows transparent towards the edge so that there are no hard shadow edges.
It is not possible to reproduce this every time using the eraser.
Is there a way to do this?

Thanks!

Hi,

Yes.

  1. Start by selecting the white part of the background using the Select > Color Range command.
  2. Choose Select > Select and Mask to refine the selection.
  3. Use a layer mask for refining the shadow and eliminating any white remnants of the background.
  4. Apply a gradient to the mask.
  5. Choose black as your foreground.
  6. Then choose Foreground to transparent for the gradient (This gives you a lot of flexibility).
