How to resolve 'unsupported colour space' for packaging a psd

I have a large PSD with dozens of linked and Embedded smart objects, when I try to package it I get

"Could not package the document ‘(aw).psd’ because a color was specified using an unsupported color space."

Seeing as Photoshop gives me no clue on what and were this 'unsupported colour space' is, how do I resolve this?

Trial and error, remove SOs and try to package to figure out which one/s cause the problems, then give those a closer look.

Does this apply to only the linked files, or any other smart objects embedded with the file?

An easier option would be to sort your linked smart objects and then rasterize them for the "packaged" version (do not save over the original linked PSD). That should convert them all to your current working color space.

Some bitmap compressed -TIFF files gave me similar error messages at the time. I needed to open them in a third party program (Microsoft Office Imaging) and saved under a new format.

For the rest: use c.pfaffenbichler​ advice. You can remove half of the objects and try. If it works the troublemaker is in the removed package. Else it's in the remaining package and remove again half of the remaining.

Are your Smart Objects saved as .eps files? I found I was getting the same message. I figured out that PS doesn't like .ai files so I resaved them as .eps files and hey presto, I'm packaging like I've never packaged before and I can keep my SO's as SO's without having to rasterize them. Good luck.

I had this same issue too. Not sure if this will work for everyone but I saved my finished file as .tiff (with layers) then tried to package it again and it packaged the working file as is. Maybe this will help some others too, hopefully anyway.

I think I've figured it out. If you double click the linked object icon which will open the object in Photoshop.

Then go to Edit >>> Assign profile, and change the colour profile to Working RGB/sRGB (This might change the colour of the image but you can just add adjustment layers to fix it in). Then it should allow you to package.

Don't assign! That will change the colors. Convert to the master document's color profile to maintain color appearance.

Edit > convert to profile. That's the standard way.

It doesn't necessarily have to be the master document's profile, but at least a standard one such as sRGB, Adobe RGB or ProPhoto.

I had this problem with a file. Turns out it was a linked "Bitmap" file (as in a 1-color .tiff file created in Photoshop, not the .bmp you would create in Windows Paint or something) that was creating the issue. Once I deleted it PS let me package the file.

This is Photoshop bug. I solved it in following funny method:
- embedded all linked files (Object / Smart object / Embed all linked)

- undo

- retried packaging => success.

Also, you can just save, and close the doc, then reopen and it will package without the error. Works for me.
