Question

I am not liking the new text and layer selection in PS2020

Is there some way to turn the new photoshop back to the old photoshop in respect to assigning, moving and editing text layers? What I find is when I add text I can never edit it becuase every time I try to reselect it  the text annoyingly adds a new text layer. (which you have to manually delete becuase contol z won't let you go back)

This also happens when I try to move the text, it always grabs the layer that isn't even selected behind the text and moves that.

This is highly annoying and I want my old photoshop back.

If you are using the Text tool to edit text, then watch the cursor. If there is a dotted-line rectangle you will create new text. If not, you will edit existing text. It's been this way for a long time — not forever, as text used to be pixels on the current layer, and I would never want to go back to "that" old Photoshop.

To avoid moving the layer behind, turn off Auto-Select in the options bar for the Move tool.

I think turning off the auto select would be wonderful and mostly what has been annoying me. I think when I cannot select font it may be a product of it being too small. That auto select is terrible though. I looked everywhere for the options for the move tool and could not find them. Can you help me out with that too?

I cannot reproduce the issue you describe.

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?

That seems pretty difficult to believe but maybe you need to provide a more detailed description.

Can you work-around the issue by double-clicking the Type Layer in the Layers Panel.

You know I think it was a glitch, I was thinking of recording a short video and I can no longer reproduce this either. When in doubt, reboot.
