I cannot update Photoshop CS6

Community Beginner ,
Dec 12, 2016 Dec 12, 2016

When I click Update, the Adobe Cloud opens and offers updates for all the CC applications but does not offer anything for Photoshop CS6.

I need to update with a patch because Photoshop crashes whenever I try to open a mov or mp4 file.

Thanks, I tried this but the crash problem still persists, so I guess it's not an update issue. It has to do with the DynamicLink Media Server. I tried downloading an "update" for this but it didn't work.

Thanks, Benjamin! It seemed a download patch took place with this link (for PC) but the crashing problem persists so this didn't do what I'd hoped, either with Photoshop or with Bridge.

Here is my issue, in case you have any other suggestions: no one has given me ANY suggestions and I"m desparate. I"ve spent a whole day on this to no solution:

CS6 (and earlier) are not fully compatible with Win10... so ODD program operation is to be expected, if the program runs at all

An idea that MAY work to install and/or run old programs in Windows 10... works for some, not for others

-RIGHT click the program icon or EXE and select a compatibility mode in the pop up option window

-or Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 to assign FULL Windows permissions may help... says Encore, but sometimes required for ALL Adobe programs (this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account)

Take a look at this thread over on feedback.photoshop.com as well. It sounds like a drive letter change may cause a similar problem in Lightroom. Lightroom 6.1.1: Synchronize Folders: dynamiclinkmediaserver has encountered an error | Photoshop Fa...

Thanks for your input again, Benjamin. I've looked at the thread you suggested but it's beyond my expertise. Also it's Photoshop and Bridge, not Lightroom, so the issue while similar is also a bit different. One user says the problem goes away after hitting the "continue" button but for me it stays.

Maybe  will have to hire someone to come to work on this, I don't know how to change the permissions, etc. PLUS it DID resolve after 4 hours work and then it reasserted itself so it's probably not permissions..

I"m tearing my hair.

Thank you for paying attention to my plea.  I WISH Adobe would respond!!!!!

Have you tried restarting your system in safe mode?

I haven't done that (Don't know how). But if I try that and it works, then wouldn't I be forced to work in safe mode???  This would be impossible to do any precise work with those blurry renderings...

Safe Mode is commonly use to narrow down possibilities. What operating system is your computer running?

Thank you for removing private info. I'm not familiar with the community forum and didn't know how to reply, I do know now.

I have other work to do today so must wait until tomorrow to tackle this again. I will try the Safe Mode. Meanwhile I downloaded Adobe Premiere Essentials in hope that I can edit my videos that way, and the program refuses to open. I uninstalled and reinstalled and the same thing happens. Maybe it is something in the Adobe setup on my computer. Or maybe Adobe just generally sucks!!!!! I'm so disgusted with Adobe I can't even begin to tell you...

Adobe won't respond. CS6 is finished. No more support or updates, you are four versions behind. Sorry if you already knew this but some people have assumed CS would continue to have a life if they chose not to go to CC. If CS6 doesn't work in Windows 10, Adobe will celebrate.

Actually both CS4 and CS6 DO WORK in Windows 10 but this problem of crashing for CS6 when I encounter a mov file is recent and may or may not be tied to Windows 10. I don't have the problem with CS4 Bridge, no crashes, the video can be accessed. I'm lucky I still have it on my computer.

As pointed out above, there are no updates for CS6 so don't hold your breadth for this.

You can install Latest Adobe Application Manager and with that you can update any outstanding updates for your installed product.  See this link:

<Adobe - Adobe Application Manager : For Windows : Adobe Application Manager >

Why did you install CC APP when you are not using any CC applications?  Just wondered.  It could be you have installed Bridge2017 and for that you do need CC APP but otherwise, it is best not to install it.

Are using CS 6 and no other CC programs?

Need more info. Is this a standalone perpetual license version?

Did you install CS 6 with a serial number?

Can you go to control panel/administrative tools/event viewer/windows logs and find the Photoshop crash log?

Select copy as text on the right and post the info here?

I am using CS6 single user stand alone program, with serial number. I don't have any other CC programs.

When I go to the event viewer/windows log I see this in the Application section for one of the times I was trying to deal with the dynamic link issue:

There is also an entry that lists bridge.exe but it has information on it (my user name, etc) that I don't want to post on a community board. does this help, or do I need to hire someone to physically or remotely directly work on my computer?

You probably need to update Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable

For 32-bit, refer to this link:

Thank you for this suggestion. I will probably need a techie to do this, and I will give him all these suggestions. They are beyond my own ability. I do appreciate the suggestion!
