    Hi,

I think you created an empty layer with some layer styles on it, as Trevor suggested and than you just painted on that layer, with the FILL at 0%. In this way your are gonna paint just the style effect and not the brush color.

The effect can be done as you wish, setting the brush tool right, in order to have the desired effect. Mix the layer styles and you're there.

    All my best,
    Martin

Are you referring to the wriggly green worm?  It's a bit blown out, and I couldn't bring myself to make it look quite the same, but this how I did a more subtle effect.

Make you line any way you like.  Paint brush, stroke a path etc.  My canvas is about 1000 pixels square, and this will make a difference to the values you'd need to use

The outer glow is the important effect, and this inner glow does not do much.

I also gave it a colour overlay just to change the colour a wee bit.  What I also did was to set just about everything to Screen to give you a glow where things overlapped.  I added the star burst with ProDigitals Star Filter 4, because it's a nice effect.

There is another wee trick you can use to make things glow.  Instead of using Screen, set the blend mode to Linear Dodge (Add), and uncheck Transparency Shapes Layer.  You can see how this has affected the little orbs I have now added.

yes im referring to that worm, but that worm was like created off of the background i created, like the glow effect came from the backgrounds colors, i was just playing around when i got that effect then later when i wanted to use it again i couldnt remember.

but thanks for helping, if i cant find how to do what i did in the first place again, then this is also good.

Notice that Trevor used Layers, Smart Objects, and Layer Effects, so that he can not only track what he did, but also change his mind about most elements.

When you try to recreate exactly what you did, be sure to follow his "best practices" example.
