I need to buy new laptop because I started using illustrator beside photoshop and in few days I will start working with inDesign.
So I need some help with specifications I need in a laptop either it's Mac or Windows.
And if you provided me with some suggestions for laptop models it would be great.
The more affordable option the better.
Thank you
Esraa

This topic is from Aug 2024. I doubt very much that the OP is still looking for a laptop. 🙄

If you have experience with modifying software and hardware in a laptop, the latter of which can be nearly impossible under certain circumstances, you can get a very good Windows system with potential for some future upgrades, such as RAM and drive(s). For instance, I have doubled the RAM in my mom's laptop and migrated her over to an SSD, so she hasn't needed to replace it yet, even though it is from early 2012. If you go the Windows route, try to get a model that has a good discrete GPU with at least 8GB of VRAM, and the ability to house at least two drives, preferably both NVME, though an NVME primary (at least 1TB) and a SATAIII storage drive (at least 2TB, whether SSD or HDD; SSD STRONGLY recommended, especially for use as a scratch disk), as well as the potential to at least double the RAM, which should be no less than 16GB as ordered, though I would heavily recommend getting 32GB or more. Don't get a gaming laptop. They're more expensive than they should be for what you want and what you get, because they add stupid features like RGB lighting and overclocking software that you won't need. A good, current to previous generation Intel i5-i9, (especiallythe new Ultra series), or AMD Ryzen 5-9 should be fine. Adobe doesn't fully support ARM on Windows yet, though this is changing. ARM is used by Apple, and makes their cpus very efficient for the amount of power they require. This also means that they run cooler. This is a lot of information to juggle.
Conversely, if you want something that will be great out-of-the-box, and require little or no modifications by you, get a Macbook, preferably Pro, with at least an M2 cpu and 1TB drive, along with 32GB of RAM. You won't be able to upgrade the drive or RAM, and the RAM is shared with the GPU cores on the CPU, so you won't have much fun with 16GB. You'll need a good, USB-C or Thunderbolt-connected external ssd of at least 1TB for a scratch disk.
As I have extensive experience with building and modifying computers, I would go the Windows route. If you want it to just work and be efficient, with all-day battery life, then I would strongly suggest the Apple ecosystem.
If you decide on the former route, builders like ASUS, Gigabyte, HP, and Acer have models that can be configured as desired, up to a point. I would recommend a search of these manufacturers, and perhaps others, with the components I suggested.
I hope that this helps.
